Chips are Great is a series of paintings that I have made over the years when I first arrive in my studio. They are “warm-ups” that I make with my non-dominant hand in order to juice up my sensitivity to light, to color, and to the not-thinkingness that is part of making art. Then as a potential enigmatic narrative begins to take shape, I respond to ideas that I have about decisions, presentations, and alliances being made by powerful people in big corporations. I imagine their ideations about how they are going to make big money despite the fact that it may not be good for the people who will partake in or purchase their products much less for the environment. I imagine their hypocrisy, their subtle cruelty, and their pride. And then I laugh at their human-ness. And then I find myself laughing at my own human-ness in wanting to laugh because I, too, am participating in the game.
